Identity Collapse
Also known as an identity crisis
When part of your identity falls out from under you, because it wasn't true to you.
This kind of shock can be necessary for you to realize that many of the ideas you have about yourself are just stories, and may be arbitrary, unfounded, or just plain wrong.
You can know intellectually that your meaning-making is composed of stories without understanding it viscerally, by experiencing a load-bearing story fail beneath you.
My personal example: in my second year of engineering school, my "scoring-points-in-the-game-of-school" wellspring of self-worth finally started to run dry. I fell into a dark place for a while, but out of that experience I learned new things about myself, found new answers.
